Pensord Group Expands Printing Capability
Despite being in the grips of a global pandemic Pensord Group has continued investment in its printing capabilities expanding its litho capacity and updating to the latest Xerox digital printing capabilities.
Group Operations Director, Karl Gater explains ‘We have invested a lot of time, energy and resource into ensuring the Pensord Print Group is relevant and fit for purpose once we start to emerge from the doldrums of Covid. Having sold our oldest presses at Cambrian Printers it had always been our intention to re-invest in the best printing options available in the market.’
‘It’s important that we continue to deliver the quality that our clients have come to expect of us but also invest in being able show the flexibility and nimbleness that clients expect from a suitable print partner in 2021 and beyond.’
The 10 colour B1 KBA press is a first move away from Heidelberg investment for the group in some years and as Karl explains Pensord have taken advantage of a buyers’ market. ‘We have always tended to buy new and in our experience, Heidelberg have been our go to partner for new but given the times we live in we have managed to source a second hand press in great condition for a fraction of the cost of new. The press was installed in September/October last year and is operating as new with speeds of up to 18,000 sheets per hour and quality equal to anything on the sheetfed market. Our decision may have been second hand, but it certainly has not been second best and offers us a different dynamic in the company’s portfolio of equipment and product’.
The investment in Pensord Digital is a fourth print engine. The Xerox Iredesse digital printing press is providing litho quality print with exceptional digital print speeds and control but with the added benefit of inline Gold, Silver and Clear.
‘We’ve seen print runs reducing in recent months and our hope is to be able to offer new options to clients who now fall into the digital space and provide versioning or personalisation on covers for litho clients. The quality is outstanding, and we are certain we will have clients taking advantage of a much more cost-effective spot gold or silver option.’ Gater added.
Of course, the investment does not stop there. Time, effort and resource has also been ploughed into the training and upskilling of staff to get the best from these machines and make them work for our clients delivering the quality and speeds required from today’s print production.
